01Know what you are buying

Travel insurance is a contract—not a promise that every loss will be paid.

The policy wording, schedule, limits, excess, covered reasons and exclusions determine whether a claim is payable.

SeeMyTrip can help travellers compare available plans and understand key features. The insurer underwrites the risk, provides the policy, controls assistance services and assesses every claim. Coverage is never created by a website summary, sales conversation or travel booking.

02What a policy may cover

Protection has
defined boundaries.

Benefits differ by insurer and plan. Always check the exact policy schedule and wording issued in the traveller’s name.

01

Emergency medical treatment

Eligible treatment for a sudden covered illness or injury during the insured journey, within limits and conditions.

02

Emergency evacuation

Policy-authorised movement to an appropriate medical facility when medically necessary and covered.

03

Trip cancellation

Non-recoverable eligible costs following a specifically listed event before departure—not a change of mind.

04

Trip interruption

Eligible additional travel or unused arrangements when a covered event forces an early return or disruption.

05

Baggage events

Loss, theft, damage or delay may be covered subject to reports, item limits, depreciation and exclusions.

06

Travel delay or missed connection

Policy-defined reimbursement after the required delay period and for accepted reasons, supported by evidence.

03Plans for different journeys
01

Single-trip cover

For one defined domestic or international journey within the policy’s start and end dates.

02

Annual multi-trip

For frequent travellers, with a maximum duration and conditions applying to each individual journey.

03

Family travel

Options for eligible family members, with individual or shared limits depending on the product.

04

Student travel

Longer-duration options that may include study interruption, sponsor protection or other defined student benefits.

05

Senior travellers

Age-eligible products where medical history, sub-limits, co-payments or additional underwriting may apply.

06

Group & corporate travel

Policies arranged for eligible tour groups, organisations or employee journeys under agreed terms.

04Medical cover overseas

Call the assistance provider as early as possible.

In an emergency, seek urgent care first where delay would be unsafe. Then contact the insurer or assistance company using the details in the policy.

01
Cashless or reimbursement

Network, authorisation and local arrangements determine whether direct billing is available.

02
Pre-authorisation

Hospital admission, evacuation or major treatment may require insurer approval except in a critical emergency.

03
Medical documentation

Diagnosis, prescriptions, reports, invoices, proof of payment and treating-doctor records may be required.

04
Medical repatriation

The insurer and medical assistance team determine necessity, timing and suitable transport under the policy.

05Common exclusions and restrictions
01

Pre-existing conditions

Existing illnesses, symptoms or treatment may be excluded or covered only under explicit, limited terms.

02

Known or foreseeable events

Events already announced, expected or known when cover is purchased may not qualify.

03

Alcohol, drugs and unlawful acts

Loss connected to intoxication, non-prescribed drugs, fraud or illegal conduct may be excluded.

04

Adventure and hazardous activities

Trekking altitude, skiing, diving, motorsport and similar activities may need specific cover or remain excluded.

05

Unattended belongings

Items left unsecured, checked valuables or missing without the required carrier or police report may not be paid.

06

Undeclared circumstances

Incorrect age, destination, medical history or journey purpose can affect coverage and claims.

06Choosing a suitable policy

Compare the details behind the premium.

A lower price can mean lower limits, narrower covered reasons, higher excess or more restrictive conditions.

01

Destination & duration

Confirm every country, transit point and the full journey dates are within the geographical and time limits.

02

Medical limit & excess

Check the maximum benefit, what you pay first and any age-related sub-limits or co-payment.

03

Planned activities

Declare cruises, sports, trekking, work, study or other activities and obtain appropriate cover.

04

Cancellation exposure

Consider prepaid non-refundable costs and whether the policy lists the events most relevant to you.

11Travel insurance FAQs

Helpful answers before you buy.

Is travel insurance mandatory?

Some destinations, visas, tours or institutions may require specified cover. Even when optional, consider the financial risks and always check current official requirements.

When should I buy the policy?

Purchase before departure and consider buying soon after making non-refundable commitments. Some cancellation benefits depend on timing and known events.

Are pre-existing illnesses covered?

Coverage varies. Many policies exclude them or provide only limited emergency benefits. Disclose medical information accurately and read the definition carefully.

Does insurance cover every flight cancellation?

No. Payment normally requires a reason listed in the policy, eligible financial loss, supporting evidence and compliance with all conditions.

Is baggage delay the same as baggage loss?

No. Delayed baggage benefits may reimburse defined emergency purchases after a waiting period, while permanent loss follows different limits and evidence rules.

Can I buy cover after leaving India?

Many policies must be issued before departure. Where post-departure purchase is permitted, waiting periods or restrictions may apply.

Who settles my claim?

The insurer assesses and settles or rejects the claim under the policy. SeeMyTrip cannot promise an outcome or override the insurer.
